Santiago Pavlovsky MD, PhD
Santiago Pavlovsky is the Medical Director of FUNDALEU at the Angelica Ocampo Hospital and Clinical Research Centre, Buenos Aires, Argentina. FUNDALEU Foundation for the Combat Against Leukaemia is a non-profit organisation in the public interest, founded in 1956 to serve the community through research, information, diagnosis and treatment of oncological blood diseases. FUNDALEU is the ESO partner for activities in Latin America.
He is a member of numerous scientific societies in Europe, Latin America and the U.S. In 1967 he co-founded the Grupo Argentino de Tratamiento de la Leucemia Aguda (GATLA) and in 1973, the Grupo Latinoamericano de Tratamiento de Hemopatias Malignas(GATHEM). He served as coordinator of both groups dedicated to the development of clinical research programs in hematological malignancies in Latin America. In 1983, he was nominated Cancer Advisor of the Pan American Health Organisation and coordinator of the Collaborative Cancer Treatment Research Programme, a project sponsored by the National Cancer Institute in the United States and the Pan American Health Organisation, with the aim of supporting clinical research projects and disseminating cancer information throughout Latin America. He was named Chair of the ASCO International Affairs Commmittee for the 1997/1999 term. He was also named the “Doctor of the Year 2000” by the National Ministry of Health, in Buenos Aires.
He has been on the editorial boards of many journals including Hematología (Consejo Asesor), Sangre, Journal of Clinical Oncology (Edición Española), Clinical Lymphoma, Annals of Internal Medicine and IntraMed. He has published over 120 articles in international peer-reviewed journals.
