Louis Denis is the Director of the Oncology Centre Antwerp, Belgium after a long career as academic urologist, specialising in urological oncology. He introduced transrectal ultrasonography in Europe and became active in new drug development and clinical research studies in urological oncology.

He served as President or Board Member of a number of national and international urological organisations. He was a founding member of the Urological Group of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and was EORTC President from 1988 till 1991. He has held several positions in the European School of Oncology and the European Institute of Oncology and served as officer of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) and the Federation of European Cancer Societies (FECS). He is currently treasurer of the Union Internationale contre le Cancer (UICC) and the International Consultation on Urological Diseases (ICUD), and is chairman of the International Prostate Health Council (IPHC). He recently chaired the 2002 WHO Consensus Meeting in Paris on Prostate Cancer Treatment, the co-coordination of the European Randomised Screening Study for Prostate Cancer and is a founding member of Europa Uomo.

He served as a Visiting Professor in Urology to a number of universities worldwide, became Honorary Member of six urological associations with the inclusion of the American and Japanese Board of a dozen urological and oncological journals. He was the first managing director of the European Journal of Cancer and has edited or co-edited more than 50 books and monographs and more than 300 peer reviewed articles.
